Alpha combos
Individual alphas are weak and short-lived; combining many into one “mega-alpha” diversifies their noise and cuts trading costs. This combo blends four of the 101 alphas.
Note. Equal weights; the paper fixes weights by regressing normalised alpha returns, which needs many more alphas than four.
Edit anything; the result updates as you type. Lines like window = 20 become sliders.

Alpha combos (3.20)

Key equation
Lab formula
// Equal-weighted blend of standardised alphas
(zscore(alpha(3)) + zscore(alpha(12)) + zscore(alpha(33)) + zscore(alpha(101))) / 4Equal weights; the paper fixes weights by regressing normalised alpha returns, which needs many more alphas than four.
How the backtest works
The formula is evaluated for every asset on every day. Its values become positions at that day’s close, using the portfolio rule you pick, and earn the next day’s close-to-close return. Costs are charged in basis points on the amount traded. Everything runs in your browser on daily data from Yahoo Finance, adjusted for splits and dividends.
