Getting started
Where should I start if I am new to quant finance?
Start with the common quantitative core, then choose a career pathway such as derivatives, systematic trading, portfolio, risk, or engineering. Each pathway adds required programmes, electives, and a capstone.
How does this fit alongside CQF or interview preparation?
SelfMadeQuant.com focuses on self-paced understanding: clear prerequisites, financial interpretation, worked examples, and exercises. It can support formal study or help you strengthen foundations alongside interview practice. It does not award the CQF qualification or guarantee a job.
Do I need to know Python already?
No. The Python programme starts with the basics. More advanced lessons build on earlier material, so use the prerequisites to check what you need before starting.
What can I use today?
25 programmes are live, with 791 lessons, worked examples, and embedded exercises. Another 5 programmes are in development and marked as upcoming. Eighteen guided, code-based projects are live, and more capstones are in progress.
Can I learn at my own pace?
Yes. Work through lessons when it suits you, save your progress, and return to your notes when you need a refresher. Follow a pathway in sequence or revisit a prerequisite before continuing.
What does a lesson include?
Each lesson lists what you need to know first, works the derivation in full, shows the Python, and ends with an exercise and its complete solution. You can mark lessons complete and keep your own notes and margin answers beside the text.
Free account
What is free, and what requires payment?
A free account, with no card, gives you one complete topic from each primer (Probability and Statistics, Markets and Derivative Contracts, Python Foundations), all 7 interactive tools and 2,437 quant interview questions with worked answers. A paid membership unlocks every programme: $99 month to month, $948 per year ($79 a month equivalent, saving $240 a year), or $1,999 once as a Founding Member.
Do I need a card to sign up?
No. A free account needs only an email address and a password. You enter payment details only if you choose a membership.
What is the in-lesson AI, and can I try it?
Highlight any passage in a lesson to ask a question about it, have it explained, or get a definition. The answer appears beside the text and is saved with the lesson. A free account includes 10 quick answers on the free-topic lessons. Members get a daily allowance on every lesson, and Founding Members have no daily limit.
Membership and billing
What's the refund policy?
We do not offer refunds for change of mind. Instead, a free account opens one complete topic from each primer, so you can read full lessons, work the exercises and check the solutions before you pay.
What is a Founding Member?
Founding Member is a one-time $1,999 payment, limited to the first 200 members. It includes the complete current curriculum, every future programme and update, and in-lesson AI with no daily limit, with no recurring charge.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open Settings, then Membership, and choose “Manage billing and cancellation”. It opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel the renewal. Founding Member is a single payment, so there is nothing to cancel.
How are payments handled?
Checkout runs on Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe directly and never reach SelfMadeQuant.com. Prices are in US dollars.
