AI Research Scientist – Campus Full-Time
A research scientist role applying deep learning, large language models and reinforcement learning to noisy financial data. It is open to final-year PhDs and Master's students with work experience at a quantitative investment firm.
What you’d work on
Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.
- Prototype deep learning models for alpha and trading tactics
- Run experiments on cloud and multi-machine GPU setups
- Turn research prototypes into production-ready code
- Partner with teams across the firm to deploy ideas
What they ask for
Required
- Final-year PhD, or Master's with work experience
- Python
- TensorFlow, PyTorch or JAX
- Deep learning, LLM or reinforcement learning experience
- Machine learning on large noisy datasets
- Version control, testing and code review
Preferred
- Rust, Java or C++
- Research publications at major ML conferences
- Open-source contributions
- Education
- Advanced degree in CS, engineering or another STEM field; PhD preferred, or Master's with work experience, in final year.
- Experience
- New graduates at final-year stage; Master's applicants need some work experience
- Languages and tools
How to prepare
- Train and evaluate a deep model on a noisy time-series dataset with careful validation
- Reproduce a recent ML paper in PyTorch or JAX
- Study why financial data breaks standard ML assumptions: low signal, non-stationarity, leakage
- Practise running multi-GPU experiments in the cloud
- Learn reinforcement learning basics and sequence models
What to study
- Financial Machine Learning
- Python for Quantitative Finance
- Probability, Statistics and Financial Data
- Econometrics and Financial Time Series
- Text as Data and NLP for Finance
