AI Lab – Research

A research role in a machine learning team inside a market maker's quantitative strategy group. The team runs its own ML-driven strategies from research through to live trading.

What you’d work on

Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.

  • Train new ML models, including large foundation models, for production trading
  • Design experiments with baselines, ablations and out-of-sample tests
  • Turn research papers into working implementations
  • Apply ML to large financial time-series and unstructured datasets
  • Train at scale on GPUs and build automated research tooling

What they ask for

Required

  • Strong grounding in machine learning, statistics and optimisation
  • Independent ML research from hypothesis to evaluation
  • Modern deep learning: transformers, sequence and state-space models
  • Building and training models, not only applying them
  • Python with PyTorch or JAX
  • GPU training experience

Preferred

  • Foundation model or LLM training
  • Reinforcement learning
  • Distributed training
  • CUDA or Triton kernels
  • Financial or high-frequency data
Education
Not stated.
Experience
Demonstrated independent ML research experience
Languages and tools
  • Python
  • PyTorch
  • JAX
  • CUDA
  • Triton

How to prepare

  • Train a small sequence model on financial time series and evaluate it out of sample
  • Reimplement a recent architecture paper from scratch in PyTorch or JAX
  • Practise careful experiment design with ablations and baselines
  • Learn GPU training workflows, including distributed training basics
