Machine Learning Engineering Internship: Summer 2027
A 10-week internship for students interested in the systems behind machine learning in markets, with a US-based placement and a full-time Hong Kong offer path after graduation. You work on training, inference and data systems like the full-time engineers.
What you’d work on
Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.
- Build and speed up training pipelines on a large GPU cluster, including distributed training
- Work on inference and deployment latency, throughput and cost in trading systems
- Move large, noisy market datasets through ingestion, storage and transformation
- Profile and benchmark ML workloads and improve internal and open-source libraries
What they ask for
Required
- Studying a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in a technical field
- Strong Python
- Hands-on use of PyTorch or JAX beyond calling the API
- Exposure to distributed training, GPUs or large-scale data processing
- Solid computer science fundamentals
- A project you can explain in detail
Preferred
- A systems language such as C++
- GPU kernel programming in CUDA, Triton or CuTe DSL
- Education
- Currently studying a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in CS, ML, engineering, maths, physics, statistics or similar; graduating by August 2028
- Experience
- Students; no finance background required
- Languages and tools
How to prepare
- Train a model with PyTorch or JAX across more than one GPU and measure scaling
- Profile a training loop and make it measurably faster
- Write a simple GPU kernel in CUDA or Triton and benchmark it
- Prepare a project walkthrough that explains your design choices and your own contribution
What to study
- Financial Machine Learning
- Python and Data Primer
- Quantitative Data Engineering
- Modern C++ for Quantitative Finance
