What you’d work on
Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.
- Apply and adapt ML methods such as predictive modelling, clustering and time-series analysis to market data
- Possibly work on NLP or computer vision problems with financial data
- Collect and analyse large datasets, then prototype and test models
- Evaluate model performance and report results to the team
What they ask for
Required
- Enrolled in a PhD in machine learning, computer science, statistics or similar
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Independent research on large datasets
- Scientific programming in Python, R or Matlab
- Detail-oriented, empirical mindset
- Curiosity about financial markets
- Education
- Current PhD student in machine learning, computer science, statistics or a related field
- Experience
- Current PhD students; no prior finance experience required
- Languages and tools
How to prepare
- Write up one ML research project with clear methodology and honest evaluation on noisy data
- Study time-series ML and why financial data is hard, including low signal-to-noise and non-stationarity
- Read a few papers on machine learning for asset returns
- Prepare to discuss non-academic projects, since the posting asks for them
What to study
- Financial Machine Learning
