Compensator that makes t times a Wiener integral a martingale

Question

For a standard Brownian motion WW, let Yt=∫0ts dWsY_t=\int_0^t s\,dW_s and Zt=tYt−atZ_t=tY_t-a_t, where at=k∫0tYs dsa_t=k\int_0^t Y_s\,ds is chosen so that ZZ is a martingale. Determine kk.

Short answer

k=1k=1. By the product rule, d(tYt)=Yt dt+t dYt=Yt dt+t2 dWtd(tY_t)=Y_t\,dt+t\,dY_t=Y_t\,dt+t^2\,dW_t. The Yt dtY_t\,dt drift is exactly cancelled by dat=kYt dtda_t=kY_t\,dt when k=1k=1.
