Density of the sum of two independent uniforms

Question

If XX and YY are independent and each uniform on [0,1][0,1], what is the probability density function of Z=X+YZ=X+Y?

Short answer

Triangular: fZ(z)=zf_Z(z)=z on [0,1][0,1], 2−z2-z on [1,2][1,2], and 00 elsewhere. Convolve the two densities: fZ(z)f_Z(z) is the length of the set of x∈[0,1]x\in[0,1] with z−x∈[0,1]z-x\in[0,1].
