Cosine of a uniform angle's mean given its sine

Question

Let XX be uniformly distributed on [0,π][0,\pi]. Evaluate cos⁡(E[X∣sin⁡X])\cos\big(\mathbb{E}[X\mid \sin X]\big).

Short answer

00. Knowing sin⁡X=s\sin X=s leaves two equally likely angles, arcsin⁡s\arcsin s and π−arcsin⁡s\pi-\arcsin s, which are symmetric about π2\tfrac\pi2 (they merge when s=1s=1). So E[X∣sin⁡X]=π2\mathbb{E}[X\mid\sin X]=\tfrac\pi2 for every value, and cos⁡π2=0\cos\tfrac\pi2=0.
