Python and Data Primer / Professional Workflow

Git

A changed backtest result may come from new code, a fixed bug or a revised assumption. Git records code changes so you can compare them and explain the difference. This lesson teaches the local review-and-commit cycle. Keep that code history alongside the data and dependency record from reproducible environments.
Learning objectives. By the end of this note you should be able to initialise a repository, inspect changes, create a focused commit and explain what should not be committed.

In this lesson

  1. The local change cycle
  2. Keep generated and secret material out
  3. Review the exact version before committing
