Commodities

A commodity hedge must match a physical quantity, delivery location and date. Storage and the value of available inventory also affect its price. This lesson explains those inputs, reads a forward curve and calculates a producer’s hedge. It builds on futures payoffs and keeps the hedge’s margin funding separate from its final result.

In this lesson

  1. Learning objectives
  2. Physical markets and carrying value
  3. Basis and delivery risk
  4. The producer hedge offsets a price fall
