Algorithmic Trader Intern

An internship on TransMarket Group's automated relative-value trading desks in Chicago. Interns work beside junior and senior traders on tick data, models and production trading code.

What you’d work on

Analyse high-frequency tick data and trading performance
Build and maintain model tools and analytics for the desk
Write and support production-quality strategy code under supervision
Take part in a structured internship programme and research projects

What they ask for

Required

Studying for a technical or finance degree, graduating Dec 2027 to spring 2028
Coursework in data structures, probability, statistics and linear algebra
Strong programming in C++, Python or Java
High major GPA (3.5/4 or equivalent)
Interest in markets and trading
Teamwork and communication

Preferred

Linux scripting
Trading competitions, student clubs or earlier internships
Data analysis or ML project work

Education: Pursuing a bachelor's, master's or doctorate in a technical field (STEM or finance); graduating Dec 2027 to spring 2028
Experience: Current students; prior projects or internships valued
Languages and tools: C++
Python
Java
Linux

How to prepare

Build a tick-data cleaner and a simple spread model in Python
Learn how order books and queue priority work
Rewrite a slow Python routine in C++ and measure the gain
Revise probability puzzles and linear algebra
