Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.

  • Explore market datasets to separate real signal from noise and propose new alphas
  • Run short research projects with different collaborators across the first six months
  • Set up research code and frameworks so others can reuse your analysis
  • Test ideas statistically and drop the ones that fail quickly

What they ask for

Required

  • Strong quantitative background (maths, physics, CS, statistics or engineering)
  • Classical statistics applied rigorously
  • Probabilistic, data-driven thinking
  • Coding in C++, Python or Java
  • Understanding of market microstructure and financial products

Preferred

  • Experience setting up research frameworks
Education
Quantitative degree such as maths, physics, computer science, statistics or electrical engineering; level not stated.
Experience
Experience level not stated; aimed at people who can contribute to research quickly
Languages and tools
  • C++
  • Python
  • Java

How to prepare

  • Build a small signal-research project on public trade or quote data and report honestly when no signal exists
  • Revise classical statistics: hypothesis testing, regression, multiple-testing and overfitting
  • Read an introduction to market microstructure (order books, spreads, queues)
  • Write clean research code in Python and practise a lower-level language such as C++
