Quantitative Researcher

A signal-research role at a global systematic manager that trades all liquid asset classes. You own the cycle from finding a predictive pattern in data to getting it running on the firm's execution platform.

What you’d work on

Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.

  • Search large, varied datasets for statistical patterns that predict returns
  • Turn promising signals into code and datasets on the shared execution platform
  • Track live signals and flag when their behaviour drifts from research
  • Present methods and results to other researchers for challenge and reuse
  • Work with technologists and traders to move strategies into production

What they ask for

Required

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field
  • Coding in Python, R, Matlab, C++ or C#
  • Statistics
  • Record of delivering systematic strategies
  • Clear communication with technologists and traders
  • Attention to detail under time pressure

Preferred

  • Machine learning, NLP or AI methods
  • Handling large datasets across several time frames
Education
Advanced degree in data science, statistics, maths, physics or engineering
Experience
Proven record of delivering systematic strategies
Languages and tools
  • Python
  • R
  • Matlab
  • C++
  • C#
Markets
multi-asset

How to prepare

  • Build a signal from raw data, test it out of sample and write up why it should or should not trade
  • Practise statistics for noisy data: overfitting, multiple testing, regularisation
  • Learn to backtest honestly with costs, lookahead checks and clean timestamps
  • Get fluent in pandas or similar for multi-horizon datasets
