MS/PhD Data Scientist Intern, Proprietary Research – 2027

A 10-week summer internship for master's and PhD students on Point72's Market Intelligence team, which turns large alternative datasets into research for investment professionals. You would do real data mining and statistical modelling work alongside the full-time analytics team.

Build features from large, messy and unstructured alternative datasets
Fit statistical and machine-learning models to test whether a dataset says something useful about companies or sectors
Check data quality and set up monitoring of model performance over time
Present findings to portfolio managers and other internal users

How to prepare

Build an end-to-end project on a messy, unstructured dataset, covering cleaning, features, modelling and evaluation
Revise regression, regularisation and cross-validation until you can explain them without notes
Practise Spark or SQL on a large dataset and write up the results
Be ready to explain a model's limits and failure modes to a non-technical listener
