Quantitative Analyst Intern – Digital Assets Market Making (HFT)
A six-month internship on the strategic proprietary market making desk, on the high-frequency track for centralised crypto venues. You would work with researchers, traders and engineers on order-book analysis, execution modelling and strategy monitoring.
What you’d work on
Our reading of the posting: what a new hire in this role would most likely spend their first months on.
- Analyse multi-venue order book, trade and fill data to measure liquidity and execution quality
- Build latency-aware, event-driven backtests that model queue position, fees and fill probability
- Measure spread capture, markouts and adverse selection across venues and regimes
- Study cross-venue lead-lag, fair value and spot-perpetual basis
- Review live PnL, inventory and exposure, and investigate surprises
What they ask for
Required
- Python for data analysis (Polars or similar)
- SQL, Git and command-line workflows
- Limit order books, order types and maker/taker mechanics
- Order lifecycle: latency, queue position, partial fills, cancellations
- Spot versus perpetual futures: basis, funding, liquidation risk
- Probability, statistics and time series
- Clear communication in English
Preferred
- Exchange WebSocket and REST APIs, async data pipelines
- Rust or another systems language
- Tick and order-book data, event-driven simulation
- ClickHouse or another analytical database
- A project on market microstructure or systematic trading
- Education
- Current or recent degree in maths, computer science, engineering, physics, quantitative finance or a related field
- Experience
- Students or recent graduates, ideally with an order-book or trading-bot project
- Languages and tools
- Markets
- crypto, futures
How to prepare
- Collect order-book data from an exchange API and study spreads, depth and trade impact
- Write an event-driven market making backtest with queue position, fees and cancellations
- Compute forward markouts and explain adverse selection on your own fills
- Learn how perpetual futures work: funding, basis and liquidation mechanics
- Practise Polars and SQL on large tick datasets
What to study
- Market Microstructure and Execution
- Python for Quantitative Finance
- Quantitative Research, Data and Backtesting
- Probability, Statistics and Financial Data
- Trading Systems and Low-Latency Infrastructure
