2027 Summer Internship – Systematic Trading

A summer internship rotating through Brevan Howard's systematic trading teams, with a focus on execution trading, execution research and portfolio financing. It sits close to the central execution services team that trades equities for portfolio managers.

What you’d work on

Analyse trading activity across regions and around market events
Solve optimisation problems that improve day-to-day execution
Build small systems that make daily trading more efficient
Carry out independent research and present recommendations
Rotate across execution trading, execution research and portfolio financing teams

Bachelor's or master's in a STEM or economics subject, on course for a 2:1 or 3.6 GPA
Strong maths and quantitative problem-solving
Python programming
Interest in financial markets and products
Ability to manage several projects
Clear written and spoken English

Education: Penultimate-year undergraduate or first-year master's student in a STEM or economics subject, finishing before July 2028; 2:1 / 3.6 GPA minimum

How to prepare

Formulate and solve a simple trade-scheduling problem as an optimisation in Python
Study how equity execution works: order types, venues, market impact and transaction costs
Analyse public trade or quote data to see how volume and spreads vary through the day
Learn the basics of portfolio financing and prime brokerage
Write a short analysis and practise presenting a recommendation
