Uniform and exponential sharing one parameter and mean

Question

For a constant λ>0\lambda>0, let XX be uniform on (0,λ)(0,\lambda) and YY exponential with rate λ\lambda. Find λ2\lambda^2 for which XX and YY have equal means.

Short answer

22. The means are λ/2\lambda/2 and 1/λ1/\lambda; setting them equal gives λ2=2\lambda^2=2.
