Eigenvalue sum after a shift, inverse and cube

Question

A square matrix AA (size n×nn\times n) has exactly the eigenvalues 55 and 77. Define B=((A−3In)−1)3B=\left((A-3I_n)^{-1}\right)^3. What is the sum of the eigenvalues of BB (each distinct eigenvalue counted once)?

Short answer

9/649/64. Subtracting 3I3I moves the eigenvalues to 22 and 44; inverting takes reciprocals, 12\tfrac12 and 14\tfrac14; cubing gives 18\tfrac18 and 164\tfrac1{64}, which add to 964\tfrac{9}{64}.
