Ratio of gamma values a quarter apart

Question

Evaluate Γ(9/4)\Gamma(9/4) divided by Γ(1/4)\Gamma(1/4).

Short answer

516\tfrac{5}{16}. Apply Γ(s+1)=s Γ(s)\Gamma(s+1)=s\,\Gamma(s) twice: Γ(94)=54 Γ(54)=54⋅14 Γ(14)\Gamma(\tfrac94)=\tfrac54\,\Gamma(\tfrac54)=\tfrac54\cdot\tfrac14\,\Gamma(\tfrac14), so the ratio is 516\tfrac{5}{16}.
