Expected share of the first half of a sum

Question

Random variables X1,…,X40X_1,\dots,X_{40} are i.i.d.; their common mean is 22, and the mean of their reciprocal 1/Xi1/X_i is 11. Writing SnS_n for the partial sum X1+⋯+XnX_1+\dots+X_n, find the expected value of the ratio S20/S40S_{20}/S_{40}.

Short answer

12\tfrac12. By exchangeability every ratio Xi/S40X_i/S_{40} has the same mean, and the 4040 ratios add up to 11, so each has mean 140\tfrac1{40}. Summing 2020 of them gives 12\tfrac12; the moment information given is a distraction.
