The appeal of explicit pricing formulas
Question
Why do quants value having closed-form solutions for prices and greeks?
Short answer
They are fast, exact and transparent. A formula evaluates in microseconds, which matters for calibration, real-time risk and large books; it gives greeks without numerical noise; and it shows how the price depends on each parameter, building intuition and serving as a benchmark for numerical methods. The danger is choosing an unrealistic model just because it is solvable.
