Ways for eight dice to total twelve

Question

Eight fair six-sided dice are rolled. Writing the probability that their faces add up to 1212 as x68\dfrac{x}{6^8}, find xx.

Short answer

330. Every die shows at least 11, accounting for 88; the other 44 pips are spread over 88 dice, and no die can exceed 66. By stars and bars that is (4+8−14)=(114)=330\binom{4+8-1}{4}=\binom{11}{4}=330 outcomes.
