Snail pushed back by wind every hour

Question

A snail is 3030 feet from its food and crawls toward it at 44 feet per hour. At the end of every hour a gust pushes it 22 feet back. It eats the moment it reaches the food. After how many hours does it get there?

Short answer

1414 hours. Each full hour nets 22 feet, so after 1313 hours the snail is 2626 feet along. During the 1414th hour it crawls the remaining 44 feet and reaches the food before any further gust matters.
