Race to call 50 adding one to ten each turn

Question

Bob and Jill alternately call out numbers, and whoever calls 5050 wins. The opening call must be an integer from 11 to 1010, and every later call must exceed the previous call by at least 11 and at most 1010. With perfect play on both sides, does Bob want to make the first call?

Short answer

Yes. Work backwards: whoever calls 5050 wins, so calling 3939 wins (the opponent must then say something in 4040–4949), and likewise 2828, 1717 and 66 are winning calls, each 1111 apart. Bob should open with 66 and then always answer with the next number in 17,28,39,5017, 28, 39, 50.
