Gap to the third-place car at the leader's finish

Question

Three cars AA, BB, CC run one 11 km lap at constant speeds. When AA crosses the line, BB is still 200200 m from it; when BB crosses the line, CC is still 200200 m from it. How far is CC from the finish when AA crosses?

Short answer

360 m. CC's speed is 8001000=0.8\tfrac{800}{1000}=0.8 of BB's, and BB's is 0.80.8 of AA's, so CC moves at 0.640.64 of AA's speed. When AA has run 10001000 m, CC has run 640640 m, leaving 360360 m.
