Four walkers and one torch on a narrow bridge

Question

Four people must cross a bridge at night. They take 1010, 55, 22 and 11 minutes respectively to cross. At most two can be on the bridge at once, they have one torch that must be carried on every crossing, and a pair moves at the slower person's pace. What is the least total time to get everyone across?

Short answer

17 minutes. Send 11 and 22 over (22), 11 returns (11), 55 and 1010 cross together (1010), 22 returns (22), then 11 and 22 cross (22): 2+1+10+2+2=172+1+10+2+2=17. The key is letting the two slowest share one crossing.
