Chance a cube ends in the digits 11

Question

Pick xx uniformly from {1,2,…,10100}\{1,2,\dots,10^{100}\}. What is the probability that the last two digits of x3x^3 are 1111?

Short answer

0.010.01. Writing x=a+10bx=a+10b with aa the units digit, x3≡a3+30a2b(mod100)x^3\equiv a^3+30a^2b\pmod{100}. The units digit forces a=1a=1, and then 30b≡10(mod100)30b\equiv10\pmod{100} forces bb to end in 77. So exactly the xx ending in 7171 work: one residue in 100100.
