Describing your research to a non-specialist

Question

Explain your PhD or research project in a way that someone outside your field would understand.

Short answer

Give a clear story in plain language, then go deeper on request. Start with the problem and why it matters, describe your approach and main result in a couple of sentences without jargon, and relate it to something familiar. Interviewers test communication skills, since quants constantly explain models to traders, so practise a 30-second and a 3-minute version.
