A client challenges your figures mid-pitch

Question

You are presenting to a client and they say your numbers are wrong. What do you do?

Short answer

Stay calm and investigate. Thank them, ask which figures and what they believe the correct values are, check the source and assumptions on the spot if you can, and if you cannot resolve it promise a quick, specific follow-up. Own any error openly; credibility depends on composure and honesty.
